Vat Phu & Champasak Discovery - 2-Day 1-Night

​DAY 1: ANCIENT TEMPLES - DON DAENG ISLAND

Departure: 08.00 hrs

Begin the day with a pick-up from your hotel in Pakse and transfer to Champasak Province. Upon arrival at Ban Nong Sano, meet your local guide and set off on a gentle trek through the countryside. Walk along rice fields and rural pathways towards Hong Thao Tao, enjoying beautiful landscapes and opportunities to observe local farming activities.

Continue to Nang Sida Temple (Hong Nang Sida), an ancient Khmer sanctuary associated with the famous Lao legend of Princess Nang Sida, who sacrificed herself to save her people from a terrifying monster. Built between the 10th and 11th centuries near the ancient city of Lingapura, the temple once stood along the royal road connecting Vat Phou and Angkor. Today, visitors can explore the remains of the sacred structures surrounded by peaceful forest scenery and traces of the former city walls.

After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the magnificent Vat Phou temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important archaeological treasures in Laos. Explore the ancient Khmer sanctuary, its historic causeway, and the impressive structures that have stood at the foot of Phou Kao Mountain for centuries.

The afternoon continues with a visit to a Local Bamboo Handicraft Workshop, where a group of skilled women create beautiful bamboo bags and other handmade products using traditional techniques passed down through generations.

​Next, enjoy a pleasant stroll through Champasak town, once the royal capital of Laos in the early 18th century. The town retains its quiet charm with elegant French colonial houses, serene temples, and reminders of its long and fascinating history.

Before reaching the Mekong River, stop at a Local Pottery Workshop to look for a traditional ceramic production and observe artisans at work.

Later, cross the Mekong River by traditional local ferry to Don Daeng Island, a peaceful island known for its rural landscapes and relaxed atmosphere.
